Several ABU members have shown keen interest in implementing HDTV. One of the triggers is the decision by some ABU members to cover the Beijing Olympic Games in HD. There is also an increased interest in digital radio broadcasting given recent developments in Australia and other countries. Mobile broadcasting, too, remains a key draw.

The ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2009 will address HDTV implementation, with a strong element of digital radio and TV broadcasting. Two sessions will be devoted to content programming issues.

Technology workshops will provide focused presentations of specific technologies for HDTV, SDTV, radio and mobile broadcasting. Participation of major industry players makes this a 'must attend' event for broadcasting executives. The symposium is being developed for the benefit of ABU members, but given the wider interest in digital and mobile broadcasting, non ABU-members are encouraged to be a part of this event.
