August 9, 2007
Source: APT
APT will introduce the
WorldCast Eclipse, the latest addition to its award winning
range of IP audio codecs at this years IBC. European
broadcasters will get their first glimpse of the product that
has been billed as the ultimate solution for robust,
reliable and high quality audio transfer over synchronous
and IP links."
The WorldCast Eclipse offers IP,
X.21/V.35 and ISDN interfaces and a selection of popular coding
algorithms including Enhanced apt-X, MPEG I/II Layer 2/3,
MPEG 4 AAC, G.711 and G.722 on a single, robust, DSP-based
codec platform. This ensures interoperability with a range
codecs from other manufacturers such as Telos, Mayah, Prodys
and Musicam. The inherent flexibility and reliability of the
unit means that it can be deployed in a wide range of broadcast
applications from outside broadcasts to mission-critical Studio
Transmitter Links over IP, Leased Line, fractional T1/E1,
Satellite, Microwave or Dial-up.
Commenting on the European launch, APTs Commercial Director,
Jon McClintock said, Our WorldCast codecs have been
terrifically well received by broadcasters who have been crying
out for a professional alternative to unreliable PC-based
codec offerings. The WorldCast Eclipse is the latest and most
highly-featured of this new range and the product has already
created quite a buzz when it was shown in the US market.
A major benefit of the system is that it not only provides
outstanding audio quality and reliable connections over dedicated
LANs but it also performs exceptionally well over the public
internet. The units CMS (Control Management System)
software package allows the user to control both audio and
network settings such as packet size, jitter buffers, QoS
levels etc to ensure optimum sound quality and reliability.
Many hundreds of WorldCast units have already been deployed
by public and commercial broadcasters worldwide. A key element
in this success is that all the companys codecs feature
Enhanced apt-X compression technology which is widely acknowledged
to be the most suitable compression algorithm for use in conjunction
with packetized networks. This is due mainly to its non-destructive
nature and the AutoSyncTM feature which enables
instant (<3ms) reconnection in the event of a dropped link.
Showcased alongside the WorldCast Eclipse at IBC will be the
WorldCast Horizon offering broadcast-grade, Enhanced apt-X
audio over IP and the WorldCast Meridian, a multi-algorithm
audio codec with both IP & X.21/V.35 interfaces.
