Avitech's Multiviewers Ensure Accurate Visual Monitoring of Broadcast Signals

Avitech International Corporation, an industry leader in multi-image display processors announced today that Greece's public broadcaster ERT S.A. (Hellenic Radio & Television) is installing over 50 high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) multiviewer modules to visually monitor a variety of studio, master control, satellite, and DTT signal feeds. The new Avitech multiviewer system, supplied by KEM Electronics S.A., Avitech's Greek representative, will allow ERT to upgrade their existing infrastructure to HD.

ERT, which operates a number of television and radio channels in Greece, was faced with the challenge of managing the visual monitoring of a number of SD and HD video signals throughout their facilities. With the news system, ERT will utilize the Avitech HD multviewers for their Digital Terrestrial channels (Sport+, Prisma+, Cine+) Master Control and Studio Control areas as well as the Satellite Feeds area of the station. The Avitech SD Multiviewers will be used in the main ERT Analogue Terrestrial channel (NET) Master Control area.

Due to Avitech's modular and no single point of failure architecture, any module or display failure of the Digital Master Control Monitor Wall can be addressed by the push of a button thus providing an unrivalled level of resilience. A seamless interface to the Pro-Bel routing switchers feeding the Avitech Multiviewers, allows the display of a combination of static and dynamic source labels for the Multiviewer Window's UMDs.

Each Avitech MCC-8004U Multiviewer module handles up to 4 auto-detect HD-SDI, SD-SDI / composite video inputs, and provide a high quality output resolution up to 1920 x 1200. Cascading modules allow the display of the desired number of sources per monitor. The Avitech systems are designed to work efficiently in production and playout environments, offering key features such as; accepting HD-SDI, SD-SDI and analog video sources with auto-detect capability, embedded audio monitoring, parallel and serial tally, exceptionally low power consumption, as well as on-screen alarm indicators for video and audio status, all while maintaining the correct aspect ratio whether it be 4:3 or 16:9.

"Avitech has met all specifications and provided the best price/performance solution in the tender issued by ERT," commented Mr. Michalitsis, Director of Technical Development.

"As European broadcasters continue to upgrade their facilities to HD, they are increasingly moving toward multi-image display processing solutions for the visual monitoring of signals," stated Michel Rudelle, EMEA Regional Manager for Avitech. "We are honored to be working with ERT and helping them achieve greater flexibility and efficiency."
