Barco, a world leader in visualization and
display solutions, has teamed with China Central Television
(CCTV) in bringing Barco's iPresent backdrop to the company's
Beijing broadcast studios.
The iPresent display wall is located CCTV's Beijing News Studio,
home to popular shows like Morning News, 360°, 30' News,
Noon News and Evening News. The backdrop system was utilized
as part of a makeshift on-site broadcast studio during the
aftermath of the 12 May earthquake in China's southwestern
Sichuan Province.
CCTV is China's core news organization, functioning as a national
provider of information, education, culture and entertainment.
CCTV has 16 national channels along with CCTV International
(CCTV 9), which covers the globe via six satellites. More
than 45 million subscribers outside China view CCTV's international
news and feature programs, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
iPresent is Barco's complete backdrop solution consisting
of specifically adapted rear-projection modules, combined
with a high performance show controller, that allows broadcasters
to use the wall as a high-quality alternative to a traditional
onstage video wall or blue screen. iPresent is able to show
a multitude of video and graphical windows and produces smooth
transitions from one display wall layout into another.
CCTV's iPresent backdrop consists of a 6x2 cDG67-DL wall configuration
and is driven by Barco's Encore show controller, the most
advanced video processing and presentation controller on the
market today.
The high quality projection modules incorporate dual lamps
with hot standby capability and are based on the latest DLP
technology, delivering outstanding picture quality, reliability
and ease of use. The iPresent system's high-resolution rear-projection
modules support 3200K color temperature that easily matches
with studio lightning. It also provides excellent on-camera
performance, while offering wide viewing angles for maximum
flexibility of camera positions.
"We're extremely happy with the iPresent solution and
Barco's willingness to work closely with us," says Xie
Jihong, Technical Chief of CCTV News Centre. "It's an
ideal backdrop solution for our news broadcasts and other
live programs. What's more, we are especially pleased with
its highly reliable hot standby lamp system and color temperature.
"Over a short period of time, the iPresent system has
shown its unique versatility here in the China market,"
says Frank Christiaens, Managing Director Barco China. "I
think its performance during CCTV's broadcasting from the
disaster zone of the Sichuan earthquake was particularly impressive.
It's a bittersweet example of the of not only the quality
our product, but our ability to work closely together with
clients bringing them state of the arts visualization solutions."
