Cache-A’s Pro-Cache archive appliance for the digital film, broadcast and professional video industries is making its world debut at IBC 2009. The small form factor Pro-Cache offers many of the advanced on-set and in-studio features demanded by media industry professionals.

The easiest to use network-attached archive appliance available today, Pro-Cache enables creative professionals to create “source masters” in acquisition workflows when using the new memory card or disk-based cameras. It also provides long-term archival storage with easy access at every stage of production.

The rack-mountable Pro-Cache solution offers an internal 2TB of RAID configurable as either striped for maximum speed (RAID 0) or for 100% protection with mirrored reliability (RAID 1). With its additional ExpressCard and eSATA connections, Pro-Cache is ideal for the fast archiving of direct connected storage. It also features SAS connections for high-speed mounts and expansion as well as a sturdy three rack unit (3RU)/half rack chassis for industrial compatibility.

Pro-Cache writes data on low-cost, secure, portable, interchangeable and industry-standard LTO-4 tape cartridges using the standard TAR format. The cost per GB is approximately €0.04, and the archive life is 30 years. A single Pro-Cache solution can manage a 200TB archive with media for less than €15,000.

Operating system-independent, Pro-Cache can be deployed into Windows, MacOS and Unix environments to provide direct access to archived data from any platform with simultaneous multi-user access and volume sharing. It plugs into a standard Ethernet network and just works, providing high capacity (800GB/LTO-4 cartridge) and high speed (greater than 50MB/s) archiving.
