Calibre Launches HD Format Converter

Source: Calibre
Calibre recently launched their new VideoExcel
product range to the European marketplace.
Usually Calibre products are found in live broadcast and on-stage
large screen applications but now that same technology has
been leveraged to provide solutions for broadcast
transmission image processing.
The first model VXL-100HD is a frame synchronizer
with up/down/cross conversion from SD>HD, HD>SD and
HD>HD with per-pixel motion adaptive processing including
very powerful 4-field de-interlace algorithms and highly flexible
variable film cadence detection. Real-time per-pixel motion
adaptive temporal and film noise reduction is provided as
standard, as is SD MPEG2 codec noise reduction for removal
of mosquito and block artefacts.

VXL-100HDs temporal noise reduction algorithms can considerably
improve CODEC efficiency for digital broadcast and substantially
reduce file sizes for IPTV, but without the usual loss of
detail or motion blur typically associated with noise reduction.
Powerful image enhancement techniques including a real-time
unsharp mask process produce near-HD quality from SD and can
greatly enhance poor quality or noisy HD footage.
VXL-100HD includes format conversion and noise reduction within
the base price.
Standard features include 3G SDI, DVI/HDMI and YPbPr Component
connectivity in and out, multistandard Composite & YC/S-Video
inputs with selectable 3D comb filtering, broadcast grade
timing stability using a temperature controlled timing generator,
Genlock to bi-level, tri-level or 3G SDI digital house sync.
Backwards compatibility with HD SDI and SD SDI is also provided.
Dual redundant power supplies are included for compatibility
with dual power grids and with a selectable alarm feature
to warn of PSU failure.
User control is via a large clear front panel LCD menu, or
RS232 or TCP/IP. Audio de-embed and re-embed from and to 3G
SDI, HD SDI & SD SDI is standard, as is AES digital audio
support.
A built-in audio delay feature automatically corrects the
audio for delays caused by VXL-100HDs internal video
processing. This audio delay can be user-increased by up to
several seconds or the video output can be delayed several
frames to re-synchronise audio to video where the source material
has an inherent audio-video mismatch.
Future options on later models now in development include
VBI data processing, timecode processing and a full motion
compensated frame rate/standards converter.
VXL-100HD uses true studio grade video algorithms hosted on
the acclaimed Realta video processor chip. It is aimed firmly
at professional broadcasters, studios and post-production
houses.
