NO PRICE INCREASE AS CRYSTAL VISION’S FIBRE GOES HD

September 24, 2007

Source: Crystal Vision

Crystal Vision has released its first High Definition fibre transmitter and receiver – at the same price as its earlier Standard Definition versions.

Providing a robust transport medium to transmit either High Definition or Standard Definition signals over large distances, the FTX HD is a fibre optic transmitter while the FRX HD is a fibre optic receiver. The FTX HD has two independent HD or SD inputs, each with one optical output. It can transmit a serial digital signal down a fibre optic cable to the FRX HD: a fibre to HD or SD receiver
offering two optical inputs and two reclocked HD or SD outputs per channel.

The fact that both boards are dual channel brings both financial and rack space savings with up to 48 channels possible in a 4U frame. In addition, having two outputs reduces the need for distribution amplifiers after the receiver, bringing further savings. Designed to work with the longer distance single-mode fibre, they will also work with multi-mode.

Both boards use a Class 1 laser, with useful features including the laser switching off if there is no input, and a warning being given if the laser is approaching the end of its life.

The fibre optic transmitter and receiver are 100mm x 266mm modules which are housed in Crystal Vision’s standard frames, making it easy to use them with any interface or keying board. The FTX HD works with the RM31 frame rear module, while the FRX HD is used with the RM28. The flexible control options include board edge, an active front panel on the frame, a remote control panel
or the Statesman PC Control System.

With orders already received, Crystal Vision anticipates an increasing use of fibre in systems owing to the more limited range of coaxial cable with HD. Ideal applications for the FTX HD and FRX HD including moving signals between studios in large installations or passing signals between Outside Broadcast vehicles.

With their ability to work with both HD and SD, the FTX HD and FRX HD have replaced Crystal Vision’s Standard Definition fibre transmitter and receiver, the FTX202 and FRX204, and are shipping now.
