The Hollywood Post Alliance has announced today
that Digital Vision will be honoured with the industry trade
organisations respected Engineering Excellence Award
for its High Dynamic Range (HDR) workflow.
The HPA Engineering Award, widely considered one of the most
sought-after honours in entertainment technology, showcases
outstanding product or technology application offerings in
post production.
Digital Visions HDR workflow was developed in response
to the needs of customers in the rapidly evolving ecosystem
of content creation and delivery elements. Historically, production
has relied on a 10-bit film-centric pipeline, but increasing
pressure on todays deliverables has elevated those requirements,
demanding unsurpassed precision and quality.
In response, Digital Vision pioneered a colour workflow with
true HDR support using 16-bit Half Float OpenEXRs. The Open
EXR-based workflow means that high dynamic range content can
be graded in Half Float native format in real-time without
any pre-conversions, loss of dynamic range or precision, allowing
rendering and previewing at the intended delivery format,
whether for Digital Cinema, film output or Blu-ray, without
premature loss of quality during the colour mastering process.
Bruno Munger, Senior Product Manager for Digital Vision commented
that, Ultimately, its our customers who continually
raise the bar of excellence, and they help us push the boundaries
in non-linear grading both in terms of creation and technology.
This HDR workflow impacts many aspects of the colour grading
process by opening up the process to 16 bit Half Float colour
space. We believe that it represents a dramatic improvement
in the art and management of the colour workflow from ingest
to delivery.
Concluding, Munger noted, Its an absolute honour
to be recognised by the HPA with an Engineering Award; we
consider it the gold standard. Because it comes from our community
and our peers - those individuals and companies working side-by-side
with us in post production its extremely meaningful
to our Digital Vision team.
The win is the second HPA Engineering Award for Digital Vision,
who took home a 2007 Engineering Award for its DVO product.
The 2010 HPA Engineering Award will be presented on November
11th, 2010, in a gala evening ceremony at the Skirball Center
in Los Angeles, CA. For further information contact +1 818
