DVS SpycerBox Flex Makes Its Debut at IBC 2010

September 3, 2010

At booth 7.E25, DVS will present the latest generation of its SpycerBox family. DVS has doubled the capacity of the SpycerBox once again and has focused on the latest SAS technology, which will be very useful to customers in post production and broadcasting.

With the debut of the SpycerBox Flex, DVS aims to offer the most convenient storage solution for the user. The central media hub offers the possibilities of a complete SAN system and proves to be a quick and cost-effective storage solution.

Also in the NAS variant, post production houses as well as broadcasters can integrate the SpycerBox Flex effortlessly into their existing storage infrastructure due to the variety of supported high-speed interfaces. The distinctive feature of the SpycerBox is that it avails itself as a combination of both variants. This means customers receive a highly integrated complete package, due to which the expenditure for infrastructure is reduced to a minimum.

Once again, the capacity of the SpycerBox has been doubled: The SpycerBox Flex is equipped with over 28.8 TB. With its new 2.5 inch SAS technology and 48 hard drives, the DVS storage solution sets new standards for rack density and performance per rack unit. When configured as SAN, SpycerBox Flex combines image data as well as metadata storage in a five HU chassis.

This is accompanied by an improvement in performance: While simultaneously increasing throughput, the latest 6 gigabit SAS technology (Serial Attached SCSI) is integrated into all hardware levels of the SpycerBox Flex: In the hard drives, in the backplane as well as in the controllers.

Apart from using the SpycerBox Flex in the SAS and NAS variants, customers can also use it another way: SpycerBox Flex units can be combined to form a cluster solution. In doing so, the capacity and bandwidth of the storage solution are increased once again, thus fulfilling DVS customer demands for versatility and flexibility.

Henner Steinwede, DVS Product Manager: "The sustained performance and stability of the SpycerBox – e.g. in the fields of third-party use and real-time – has already found a lot of supporters among our customers in post production and broadcasting."
