Entone Unveils Eco-Friendly Hybrid Over The Top Receiver at IBC 2010

Entone Kamai™ Optimized for Live Broadcast & Internet Streaming Applications

Entone, Inc., a leading provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, announced today the latest addition to its award-winning portfolio of Hybrid TV receivers, Kamai, a compact but powerful hybrid HD receiver for live broadcast and over-the-top (OTT) applications.

To help European operators address the challenges in deploying IPTV and OTT services, Kamai features integrated 802.11 b/g/n WiFi capabilities which makes installation a breeze, yet still provides plenty of bandwidth for streaming high-quality HD video.

Subscribers won’t need to rewire their homes or add expensive adapters to install Kamai. It connects to any standard WiFi router and operates over any broadband connection including DSL and cable modem. Compared to other WiFi solutions, 802.11n more than doubles the bandwidth available for streaming HD video and further enhances the quality of service for video streaming by utilizing multiple antenna technology.

Featuring an 1100 DMIPS processor with hardware accelerated 3D graphics support, Kamai can deliver the most demanding OTT applications while offering eye-catching user interface capabilities. With optional tuner for worldwide video standards, Kamai provides even greater benefit to end-users without burdening service providers with the costs for broadcast TV delivery.

Subscribers can watch their favorite local content live while conveniently accessing Internet content using the same remote control and user interface. This provides end-users a much richer user experience and also enables service providers the opportunity to offer more revenue-generating services to grow their subscriber base.

The European version of Entone’s Kamai conforms to the latest regulatory requirements for reducing energy consumption and is shipped in fully recyclable packaging. Kamai incorporates Entone’s DeepSleep™ technology that reduces power consumption up to 99% in standby mode when compared to competitive products. DeepSleep enables devices to resume full operation nearly immediately based on customer activity or at a prescheduled time—for example to record a program or receive a scheduled software update.

DeepSleep devices are compliant with the European Commission’s Code of Conduct v8 that defines three different operating modes: ‘standby’, auto power down’ and ‘on’. Kamai surpasses energy efficiency guidelines and regulations from the European Union’s Eco-Design of Energy-Using Products (EuPs) and United States’ ENERGY STAR program.

“Many service providers and content license owners see enormous opportunity and consumer demand for streaming content over the Internet or other unmanaged networks,” said Mark Evensen, Founder & CTO of Entone. “Kamai represents the first open platform for OTT applications specifically designed for service providers. In close collaboration with European service providers, we specifically developed Kamai to address their key needs and challenges.”

Entone’s family of hybrid devices provide a robust and flexible platform optimized for delivering Digital Video Broadcast (DVB-C, DVB-S2, DVB-T) and streaming services, such as OTT video and Web media services. These hybrid devices support advanced video and audio formats, including MPEG-4 (AVC/H.264), MPEG-2, VC-1, Dolby Digital, Windows Media, and MP3.

These high-performance hybrid devices easily integrate with existing home networks and broadband services for enabling personal media sharing throughout a subscriber’s home. Entone hybrid devices allow service operators to increase their subscriber base and generate more revenue by offering subscribers more compelling services.

Kamai is currently being evaluated by a number of European video operators and will be available in all European markets in late 2010.

Product demonstrations of Kamai and Entone’s new hybrid devices can be seen at IBC2010 in Amsterdam at the Entone stand (Connected World, stand IP-503).
