Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive Named Hall of Fame Solution for NASCAR Media Group

May 5, 2008

NASCAR Media Group, which provides production services and content generation for the National Association for
Stock Car Auto Racing, has selected Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive to manage storage of incoming footage as well as an irreplaceable archive containing more than 50,000 hours of NASCAR film and video, some dating as far back as 1948 when NASCAR was founded. The Front Porch solution will underpin transition to a tapeless workflow to be completed in time for NASCAR Media Group's move in 2009 from its current Charlotte, N.C., facility to the tower of the NASCAR Plaza, now under construction in the same city.

"This project is the fulfillment of a dream for all of us at NASCAR," said Scott Rinehart, NASCAR Media Group's director of internal operations. "It's something we've wanted to do since I came to work here seven years ago, but the technology is just catching up with our vision -- enabling NASCAR at last to create an efficient workflow as well as safe, secure storage in our high-pressure, quick turnaround production environment. Front Porch has a
real understanding of what NASCAR wants to accomplish and we've forged a true partnership to store and manage a treasure trove of content."

NASCAR Media Group accumulates approximately 120 hours of new footage each week. The new workflow, currently being piloted, relies on VideoBank media asset management to move clips via DIVArchive between Quantel editing and a SpectraLogic T950 datatape library. At the time the project commenced in March 2008, NASCAR Media Group had only 8,500 hours of low-res media proxies stored digitally. With eight Quantel encoders running two shifts, five days a week, NASCAR Media Group anticipates that it will be able to digitize the
entire archive both in proxy and in broadcast-quality format, in time for the move to the NASCAR Plaza in 2009.

The new workflow will afford NASCAR Media Group's production staff much easier access to its own media trove, enhancing production efficiency and quality. In addition, the DIVArchive solution automates creation of backup copies of historic NASCAR footage, greatly increasing the security of a unique and historic archive that is invaluable to millions of NASCAR fans in the U.S. and around the world.

Based on a combination of software and hardware components integrated to provide a turnkey solution, DIVArchive from Front Porch Digital is a uniquely flexible content storage management solution that simplifies the
process of preserving, managing, and accessing content for operations of all sizes.

"This installation is another demonstration of the unique contribution DIVArchive can make not only in a broadcast workflow but in the wider world of media production," said Mike Knaisch, president and chief executive officer of Front Porch Digital. "It is also gratifying for us to recognize the larger significance of the work we do -- helping to maintain and safeguard access to the historic record of human endeavor, be it news footage, classic cinema, performance, or -- in this case -- the thrilling
sport of stock car racing."
