Globalstor Data Corporation,
a leading OEM Integrator of high performance RAID, SAN and
storage/video servers, debuted its ExtremeStor-iTrax at AES
2007.
Equipped with a solid state 64-bit iSCSI and NAS operating
system, the new iTrax expands on Globalstors popular
line of ExtremeStor products. Featuring a wide range of servers
designed and optimized for every level of professional audio
recording, it provides multi-room recording facilities with
a flexible, secure and competitively-priced solution that
allows multi-user access to consolidated, centralized and
fully searchable data.
With the ExtremeStor-iTrax, Globalstor introduces the
same technology used by Jet Propulsion Labs and NASA to professional
audio recording, says Scott Leif, president of Globalstor
Data. Our development of iSCSI- and NAS-based solutions
has opened new doors in the production, organization and storage
of the music industrys singular asset. The evolution
of recording facilities, both commercial and private, has
been set in motion with iTrax.
Using an iSCSI initiator, the iTrax appears as a local disc
drive on any computer connected to the LAN or WAN. Windows
users can download the free Windows iSCSI initiator offered
by Microsoft. Globalstor solutions can also be used as NAS
(Network Attached Storage) servers in conjunction with iSCSI.
Once iSCSI initiators are loaded, every host system on the
network can see and share all stored data. Engineers on separate
workstations can simultaneously edit and mix different sessions
stored on any iTrax server.
With the iTrax, audio
professionals have centralized storage and retrieval of multiple
sessions at their fingertips. In addition, users can remotely
log into sessions from anywhere in the world using any Internet
Protocol-based GUI. iTrax servers are available in various
configurations, ranging from an 8-drive solution with RAID
protection on board to a 36-drive version with multiple levels
of RAID redundancy on board. Among the high profile music
companies using iTrax include Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA),
which has employed a 16-drive solution with two independent
RAID controllers on board to accommodate the label groups
multiple projects and operators.
Globalstors ExtremeStor series of robust and flexible
server platforms represents a quantum leap forward from the
sneaker net of removable FireWire or USB hard
drives or an expensive and cumbersome Fibre Channel infrastructure.
This solution delivers a comprehensive, centralized, and searchable
database. In the professional audio industry, Globalstor data
storage solutions are used in conjunction with Pro Tools and
other digital audio workstation software on both Macintosh
and Windows platforms.
