HaiVision Systems Inc. (Montreal, Canada), the world leader in performance video encoding technology, today announces that Obiteljski Radio I Televizija Valentino (orv / otv) has deployed HaiVision’s hai1000 H.264 high performance encoders and decoder to distribute radio and television broadcasts from origination studios to transmission points. The system was designed, integrated, and commissioned by WMC-DIGITAL based in Zagreb.

“HaiVision’s systems provide excellent audio and video quality within the 2 Mbps bandwidth budget that we have defined,” explains Vlado Petrovic, president of WMC-DIGITAL. “What is really perfect is that within that bandwidth each stream has one television and one radio channel. As well, HaiVision systems are natively bi-directional (encode/decode) so ultimately we can broadcast / backhaul in either direction.”

“WMC-DIGITAL is an integrator of the highest caliber,” adds Mirko Wicha, HaiVision’s CEO. “They had an aggressive vision for the project and executed flawlessly.”

HaiVision’s H.264 products are gaining broad acceptance within the broadcaster community because of their price / performance; HaiVision products typically provide over twice the performance (measured in latency) at half the price of tradition broadcast encoders.

As well, broadcasters are now looking to move from high latency satellite contribution towards interactive media infrastructures that take advantage of low cost terrestrial bandwidth. Within these next generation contribution networks, broadcasters can eliminate the inherent latency of remote interviews while at the same time reducing their costs dramatically.

HaiVision is a leader in the development of H.264 encoding platforms, and has 4 levels of H.264 hardware solutions:

OSCAR – for the most cost effective QuickTime compatible streaming

TASMAN – for performance oriented streaming and communications

hai1000 – for carrier grade multi stream interactive applications such as telepresence

MAKO-HD – the fastest codec for interactive high definition (up to 1080p) achieving a remarkable 60 millisecond end to end latency
