IPV, a global leader
and largest independent supplier of low bit-rate, frame-accurate video
technology to the broadcast and professional video sectors, will for the
first time showcase the latest version of its Curator system at IBC 2008 in
Amsterdam.

An affordable, proxy-based tapeless workflow environment running on both PC
and Apple(r) Mac platforms, the Curator system is designed to allow
communities of media professionals add value to their content and
efficiently fulfil tasks such as desktop editing media annotation, review
and approve and general media browsing. It is a complete solution that can
efficiently ingest, encode or transcode, at low bitrate, proxy SDI or
file-based media, which can then be used concurrently by multiple users.
Whatever the source of the material, the Curator version is guaranteed to be
frame accurate at all times giving an unprecedented desktop experience.
Product enhancements to the Curator system at IBC 2008 include the ability
to:
* Capture third party externally generated event metadata for the live
generation of sub-clips, complete with annotations, speeding up operations
such as highlight package creation;
* Ingest graphics and audio files and associated metadata into the
Curator library for use within the Curator Media Desktop providing the
browse viewer an enhanced rough-cut viewing experience of proxy material.
Additional independent audio tracks allow for elements such as voiceovers
and different language tracks to be created;
* Provide a complete file-based workflow solution for integration with
craft editing systems. Curator ensures that both the rough cut EDL and the
correct high resolution file-based assets are transferred to the required
craft editing system, whilst automating the process of file re-wrapping and
EDL translation as required;
* Provide full support for desktop usage of ShuttlePro 2 hardware
controller, enabling Curator Media Desktop users to jog, shuttle, edit and
annotate media, with optimum efficiency and superb media transport control.
"The Curator system offers a swift route to a tapeless workflow environment
at an affordable price," said Nigel Booth, Executive Vice President for
Sales and Marketing at IPV. "We have systems in use at a number of key
installations including the National Geographic Channel in Washington and
the UK's Five in London - and it is currently being evaluated by many more
around the world. The introduction of these new enhancements at IBC will
further the appeal of the Curator to media organisations."

Curator uses Windows Media 9 VC-1 format storage for its browse resolution
content. This can be ingested directly from SDI video or transcoded from
other file formats. Whatever the source of the material, the Curator version
is guaranteed to be frame accurate at all times. Tools included in the
system include shot change detection, closed caption overlays, handling of
multiple audio tracks, speeding tasks such as scene by scene transcription,
review and approval and metadata preparation.
