Jünger Audio Shows A Complete Workflow Solution for Dolby Coded 5.1 Audio at IBC 2009

July 8, 2009

Source: Jünger Audio

Dynamics processing specialist Jünger Audio will be attending this year’s IBC Convention in Amsterdam with a complete suite of DSP and interface cards for its C8000 LEVEL MAGIC automated audio loudness control system for production and broadcast.

The company will be showing LEVEL MAGIC in a complete set-up that offers a fully integrated workflow solution for managing surround sound and Dolby coded 5.1 audio signals in production, ingest and playout.

Peter Pörs, managing director of Jünger Audio, says: “Our aim is to offer an outstanding integrated workflow solution that incorporates signal acquisition, monitoring, processing and smart 5.1/2.0 fail over switching, including programme metadata management. These new additions to the C8000 LEVEL MAGIC system will provide our customers with a solution for managing 5.1 audio and Dolby coded streaming that is far more effective than anything else on the market.”

Jünger Audio’s LEVEL MAGIC is a sophisticated adaptive level control algorithm that is designed to adjust the level from any source at any time, with no pumping, breathing or distortion. It is based on a simultaneous combination of an AGC, a Transient Processor for fast changes and a “look ahead” Peak Limiter for continuous unattended control of any programme material, regardless of its original source.

Capable of using any kind of I/O (Analog and Digital) sources, as well as SDI, HD/SDI, Dolby 5.1 and all its related metadata, LEVEL MAGIC is available in a variety of configurations to suit different applications. It can also be configured and remotely controlled via a web interface – and it now complies with the ITU’s BS.R1770 loudness control specifications as level detection can easily be switched to ITU mode.

The LEVEL MAGIC Surround Sound Suite

The latest addition to the range is the C8086-8, an 8 channel DSP card that incorporates a new Dolby® Metadata Generator option. This is designed for use with the modular frame C8000 system, which provides audio processing for a wide variety of application including audio production, broadcasting, distribution, re-broadcasting and audio for video.

The new DSP card allows users to verify, modify or generate metadata, including Dialnorm, according to Dolby specifications for both Dolby E and Dolby Digital. The card also incorporates Dolby® Metadata display and editing and eight Metadata presets. The Metadata Generator with LEVEL Magic offers a unique processing combination that guarantees proper adjustment of audio and metadata.
With the C8086 in place, the LEVEL MAGIC system can transport metadata from the point of origin up to the point of Dolby Digital encoding, thus ensuring that the entire workflow for 5.1 audio production remains HD/SD-SDI embedded throughout.

Jünger Audio is also introducing the 16 channel C8404 HD/SD-SDI embedder/de-embedder and Dolby® E resynchronizer card with in-built video delay. With this card installed, the LEVEL MAGIC system can compensate for any kind of processing delay to the video signal – something that would previously have been impossible without the customer investing in and installing a separate video delay device.

Other cards available to LEVEL MAGIC customers – and on show at NAB – include:

C8601 Dolby D/E Decoder
C8611 Dolby E Encoder
C8612 Dolby D/D+ Encoder
C8082 5.1/2.0 auto switch over/ducking circuit
C8188 16 channel AES/EBU I/O card

All of these cards can be used in various combinations, depending on the customer’s requirements.

Loudness Control

Alongside its Surround Suite of processing tools, Junger Audio is also introducing the C8486 SDI inserter card with integrated LEVEL MAGIC functionality. This combo card is aimed at satellite and cable operators that need a permanent means of controlling loudness that can be quickly implemented in a reliable and easy way.

The card comes with 4 channel audio processing and SD-SDI interface. Customers can also choose HD-SDI interfacing and 8 channel LEVEL MAGIC Surround as an option or an upgrade.

The specially designed LEVEL MAGIC rack frame can hold up to 16 of these cards. This means that Jünger Audio can offer loudness control for 16 independent SDI video streams with up to 8 audio channels each in just 3 RU of space – and including SNMP monitoring. No other solution with this density is available on the market.
