Independent
producer Rod TerBeest's long relationship with JVC products
dates back to his days working at a TV news station in the
late 70s. When the station switched from 16mm to video, Rod
chose JVC because it was an affordable solution that enabled
the station to deliver high quality projects and commercials.
Rod's company, Rod TerBeest Productions still relies on JVC
cameras to deliver film-like footage to clients. As Rod's
business progressed through the years, so did advances in
technology. After transferring from linear editing to non-linear
editing solutions, he found that all of his JVC archival footage
was compatible in the current NLE workstation. "That
is what I have always liked about JVC. Even with changes in
technology, JVC has never forgotten about independent producers
who still utilize archived footage," said TerBeest.
In 2007, Rod used the GY-HD110U Series to produce two projects
that required HD. One of those projects was for Dow AgroSciences,
which was released on BluRay disc and required the best possible
resolution. They projected the project onto theater size screens
for national sales meetings.
Today, Rod captures footage to his NLE with JVC's BR-HD50
ProHD deck via Firewire to capture HD and DV and uses the
Blackmagic to capture legacy analog video through the component
connectors. He edits in Premiere Pro, which allows him to
record back to tape in real-time from the timeline or export
to the BlueRay/DVD authoring program Encore.
"JVC's GY-HD110U footage and the D-9 footage have worked
perfectly together in my workflow. I haven't encountered any
problems integrating the upconverted D-9 SD programs with
the new HD programs on the same BluRay disc," added TerBeest.
This year, Rod updated his product line to shoot all projects
in HD with his GY-HD110 and GY-HD200 cameras. TerBeest is
confident knowing that as technology improves, he'll be able
to stay ahead of the curve with his adaptable JVC ProHD equipment.
