The New York Production Alliance (NYPA) has appointed John Johnston to the newly created position of executive director. The announcement was made by Terry Lawler, who serves as NYPA executive VP, and New York Women in Film & Television's executive director.

Lawler said Johnston will advance the NYPA's "mission of making the State of New York an attractive location for filmmakers from around the globe. He has a broad range of experience in the industry, and has played a leadership role in NYPA since it was founded in 1998."

Johnston served in various sales, marketing and management roles for the Entertainment Imaging division of the Eastman Kodak Company for 33 years. He spent the last 10 years of his Kodak career in a management role in New York City where he became closely involved with many industry projects and organizations dedicated to the rebuilding of the production industry after 9/11. Johnston serves on the boards of NYPA, The Advertising Club of New York, The Rochester International High Falls Film Festival and The Little Theater Film Society in Rochester. He is also an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers.

"New York offers great locations and studio facilities, a deep pool of talented filmmakers and service companies, as well as generous tax credit incentives," Johnston says. "I plan to listen to and work closely with state and local economic development agencies, film commissions and all NYPA member organizations. We share a goal of continued growth of jobs in film, television and commercial production and postproduction in New York."

NYPA is an alliance of organizations and individuals committed to promoting film, television, commercial, video and new media production in New York City and New York State. Members include trade associations and companies, including talent and craft unions and guilds, studios, production companies, post production facilities, nonprofit organizations, vendors and affiliated groups. Individuals affiliated with member organizations, production industry independents and freelancers are also members.
