Sony Electronics Acquires Convergent Media Systems
Sony has acquired Convergent Media Systems, a provider of video integration solutions to the enterprise market.
 
The Alpharetta, Ga.-based company has established itself as an expert in digital signage and content distribution systems and will be integrated as a subsidiary into Sony Electronics' broadcast and professional products business.
Enablence Appoints Tim Thorsteinson as President and Chief Operating Officer
Enablence Technologies Inc. a supplier of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro and long-haul markets, announced the appointment of Tim Thorsteinson as President and Chief Operating Officer.
 
Tim Thorsteinson recently retired as President of Harris Broadcast.
Thomson becomes Technicolor - Shareholders approve restructuring plan
Shareholders of Thomson approved all resolutions, including those pertaining to the Restructuring Plan made public by Thomson on 9 December 2009.

In addition, the shareholders approved the change of name of the Group to "Technicolor". As of Monday, February 1st, the Company is trading on NYSE Euronext Paris under the Technicolor symbol (TCH).
Avid Announces Fourth Quarter 2009 Results
Avid reported revenues of $174.7 million for the three-month period ended December 31, 2009, compared to $206.7 million for the same period in 2008.
Revenues for the year ended December 31, 2009 were $629.0 million, compared to revenues of $844.9 million for 2008. GAAP net loss for 2009 was $68.4 million, or $1.83 per share, compared to GAAP net loss of $198.2 million, or $5.28 per share for 2008.
I-MOVIX Adds New Features to Popular SprintCam V3 HD Ultra-Slow-Motion Solution

I-MOVIX announced it has set an April 2010 release date for a significantly enhanced version of its SprintCam V3 HD ultra-slow-motion system.

New features include; a wider range of available frame rates (from 150 to 2,000 fps) with instant replay, simultaneous capture and record, built-in intercom, and integration of both live- and replay-view on the viewfinder.

Broadcast Pix Introduces Slate Portable - A Control Room in a Briefcase

Broadcast Pix announced Slate Portable, a new system for live video production on location.

Slate Portable provides all the power of a Slate video production system in a compact, cost effective, all-in-one unit, including: HD/SD production switcher, multi-view monitoring, clip stores, graphics system with Harris Inscriber CG, Fluent workflow software, and format and aspect conversion for 1080i, 720p, SD, and analog.
 
It is available now and is priced at $20,900 for SD and $24,900 for HD/SD.

Bexel Provides Fiber Optic support for the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games
With over 8,000+ terminations/fusion splices, 340+ cables totaling about 48 miles and 135 Optical Distribution Frames (patch panels) located throughout most of the Olympic facilities, Bexel has had a crew of six people on location working full time since November, 2009.

Detroit Public TV to Build New HD Truck with Grass Valley Technologies

Detroit Public TV, WTVS, is building a new high-definition production truck based on the latest production technologies from Grass Valley.

The new 35-foot truck will include six LDK 3000 HD cameras with LCD viewfinders, a Kayak 2 M/E HD production switcher, and a K2 Dyno HD replay system.

SIS LIVE Supplies Uplink Services for the 2010 Torch Relay
SIS LIVE announced that through a contract awarded to Intelsat by IMAGE MEDIA Farm Inc. (IMF), SIS LIVE is providing mobile satellite connectivity services for The 2010 Olympics Torch Relay.

The Relay, the longest ever to take place in a single country, kicked off on October 30 in Victoria, BC and concludes at the Opening Ceremony for the Winter Games on February 12, 2010.

Teracue IPTV Encoder and Decoder at the Olympic Games in Vancouver
Teracue AG supplied Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk with the ENC-200 H.264 encoder and the DEC-200 H.264 decoder for the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver.
 
The ready-to-broadcast signal, which goes to ARD and/or ZDF is encoded with the ENC-200 into a compressed H.264 format and is streamed via an IP network into hotels in Vancouver to be distributed and decoded again there. This gives the editorial teams on site the chance to follow the Olympic Games in hotels where normally the ARD and ZDF signals are not available.
Tieline and APTX Partner on IP codecs for Broadcast
APTX, an audio coding solutions company and developer of apt-X, audio codec technology, announced that Tieline Technology, Australian manufacturer of high-performance POTS/ISDN/IP audio codec equipment for professional broadcast applications, has licensed the Enhanced apt-X audio codec scheme for low-latency, encoding/decoding for deployment in a new range of advanced AoIP codecs scheduled to launch in early 2010.
