Softel Group Divests Aston Broadcast Video Graphics Business
The Softel Group announced that it is selling its video graphics systems company Aston Broadcast, Limited for an undisclosed fee to real-time graphics specialist Brainstorm Multimedia, SL.
Civolution acquires Thomson STS Watermarking Business
The combination of the two businesses will generate a unique technology and service solutions provider that will benefit media content owners and distributors in the fast growing market for audio and video content tracking, management and monetization.
 
As a result of this amalgamation, Thomson will become a shareholder in Civolution.

Fujinon and NHK To receive 2009 Engineering Emmy Award for Precision Focus Assist system
Fujinon and co-developer NHK won for "Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development."
 
Developed in 2001, Precision Focus Assist addresses critical focus issues in HDTV production stemming from the format's shallow depth of focus and the lack of size and resolution in camera viewfinders. It is not an auto focus system, but a focus assist that can be operated in momentary or automatic modes to precisely adjusts the lens for optimum focus.
New FOR-A Frame Rate Converter
The FRC-8000 multi-format frame rate converter is equipped with a new image processing board for HD and SD format conversion.
 
The unit uses FOR-A's vector motion compensation technology to perform integrated up, down, and cross conversion.

Dolby Wins 2009 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Engineering Achievement
The Dolby DP600 is the third Dolby broadcast product and technology to win the award for achievement in engineering, and the tenth overall for the company.
 
The DP600 was recognized for being an innovative audio platform that provides a file-based automated solution for faster-than-real-time encoding, decoding, conversion, transcoding, loudness correction, audio creation, and upmixing.

ON-AIR Systems, a developer of PC-based automated playout systems, will unveil a major new version of its flagship "channel in a box" solution at IBC 2009. 
US Olympic Committee to launch TV network in 2010
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) will launch a cable television network devoted to Olympic and Paralympic Games next year, with Comcast Corp agreeing to carry the channel in its cable lineup.

DEV Systemtechnik has re-designed its L-band Signal Distribution System DEV 2180, equipping it with a controller and SNMP/Ethernet interface as well as hot-pluggable amplifiers as a standard which can be upgraded without interruption of operations.
RESEARCH: Broadcast / Pro Video Industry in Down Cycle, Predicted to end in mid to late 2010
SCRI's 2009-2010 Broadcast / Pro Video Marketplace Report, is reporting that equipment purchases by end-users among cable & TV broadcast stations as well as film & video production / post and corporate and institutional video (govt. medical, educational) sectors for the 25 Product Types tracked by SCRI, was down from $10.3 billion in '07 to $10.1 billion in 2008 and projected to decline to $9.9 billion in '09.
 
However, SCRI forecasts for 2010 put the total market up by around 4.5% from the low of '09 to around $10.4 billion.

Anton/Bauer USB Battery Management System Makes IBC 2009 Debut
Anton/Bauer is introducing its new AB-BMS (Anton/Bauer Battery Management System) to the European market at IBC 2009 (Stand 9.D28b).
 
This application includes Battery Management software and a USB to Anton/Bauer Gold Mount bracket. The AB-BMS streamlines battery maintenance protocols while delivering critical information to the camera operator.
