Omneon MediaDeck™

Demonstrating for the first time at GVExpo is Omneon’s MediaDeck™ -- a compact, affordable, and integrated media server system based on the proven technology of Omneon’s flagship Spectrum media server. MediaDeck integrates media storage, system management, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, and SD or HD video I/O modules in one convenient package, only two rack-units high.

MediaDeck storage consists of eight 500GB SATA disk drives with dual-parity RAID, providing three TB of useable storage with protection even in the event of two drive failures. The system also features modular I/O components, so users can mix and match modules to fit their needs. SD modules for ingest and playout (up to six channels per unit) and HD ingest modules (up to two channels per unit) are immediately available. Additional
modules will follow to add further ingest and playout channels and formats.

Designed for small stations and other users requiring a standalone server that is affordable, reliable, and compatible with existing automation systems and workflows, MediaDeck represents a breakthrough in
price-performance for media server technology. MediaDeck is also a perfect ingest station to an Omneon MediaGrid active storage system.

Omneon Spectrum™ HD

The Omneon Spectrum™ HD media server combines high-quality HD record and playout capabilities with flexible features to allow facilities to migrate efficiently to HD broadcasting. Spectrum HD MediaPort ingest and playout
modules can support one or two channels each of HD MPEG 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 material at rates up to100 megabits per second. The Omneon Spectrum HD offers both baseband ingest capability and support for today’s high-quality
external encoders that may already be deployed in their origination facilities. Because the Omneon Spectrum HD handles DVB/ASI streams, network feeds can be ingested directly into the media server for playout. Combine
all this with the Smart Scalability™ of all Omneon Spectrum systems to scale channels, storage, bandwidth, and redundancy independently in smart manageable increments, and users have a system that integrates seamlessly with their current encoding choices, supports their HD strategy, encompasses their SD requirements, and can grow along with their facilities.

The Omneon Spectrum media server’s multiformat HD capabilities include support for Avid’s DNxHD™, Sony XDCAM HD™, and DVCPRO HD. These formats are
supported within the Omneon file system and can be ingested or played out in real time using the appropriate existing Omneon MediaPort modules. With the launch of the MediaPort 6000 series, the product line further extends its support of HD production formats. The first Spectrum component in the new series is the MediaPort 6101, which provides real-time recording and playback of DVCPRO HD material, one of the most popular HD acquisition and edit formats deployed today. With the MediaPort 6101, broadcasters can easily integrate DVCPRO HD into existing workflows while at the same time protecting investments in field acquisition equipment.
