Softel - IBC2009 Show Preview
July 7, 2009
Source: Softel
Softel will demonstrate for the first time
at IBC2009 the full features of the unique vFlex HD. Housed
in a single unit, the vFlex HD is a multipurpose ancillary
data processing system for HD. With the same feature set as
the original analogue/SD vFlex, the vFlex HD offers a powerful
platform for VBI and VANC data processing for SD and HD SDI,
as well as graphics insertion.

vFlex is Softel's new generation SDI inserter, supporting
insertion of subtitle, Teletext, wide screen signalling and
other ancillary data into the transport stream. Support for
opt cue encode and decode and bridging, vFlex enables complete
flexibility in SDI broadcasting.
Additionally vFlex combines data processing with CG and graphic
keying, allowing the insertion of clocks, bugs and other graphics
into the transmitted video. Remote management via a web interface,
as well as a simple front panel interface, means that vFlex
can be easily managed even if it is located at a remote transmitter
base.
Swift vTX, Swift TX and Swift Create
At IBC2009 Softel will be demonstrating its integrated range
of powerful subtitling solutions including Swift vTX, Swift
TX and Swift Create.
Swift vTX is the leading solution for encoding, transcoding,
extracting and reinserting subtitles, captions and ancillary
data on video server assets. SD and HD compatible, Swift vTX
provides high reliability, flexibility, seamless integration
with automation systems and 'at a glance' management, while
delivering reduced operational costs. The solution supports
a huge range of file formats, including MXF, and has direct
interfaces with leading video servers -- such as Grass Valley
and Omneon -- and automation systems -- including Harris,
Sony and OmniBus -- enabling highly efficient workflows in
broadcast or post-production environments. Swift vTX fully
supports non-linear editing, including automated EDL-based
subtitle editing, where received or previously aired material
needs to be censored, adapted or edited to fit a time slot.
Swift TX meets the demands of multiformat time-of-air subtitle
transmission, with high availability, automation interfaces
and the ability to transcode in real time. It can work in
tandem with Swift vTX to transcode VBI or VANC encoded subtitles
to open or closed Teletext or DVB format subtitles. With facilities
for late subtitles to be 'dropped' onto the unit close to
broadcast and a live subtitling interface with Swift Create,
Swift TX can handle any subtitle transmission task.
Swift Create, Softel's renowned subtitle preparation software,
integrates with Swift vTX and TX and is the most widely deployed
solution across the globe.
Cyclone
The latest generation of Microsoft Windows-based Cyclone Teletext
systems distils Softel's extensive expertise into a highly
dynamic and scalable management and transmission solution
for traditional Teletext applications. Cyclone leverages the
latest networking and internet technologies to offer high
availability, remote editing and automated updates from external
data sources, cost-effectively supporting highly dynamic Teletext
services. Additionally it enables easy repurposing of content
to the Internet and mobile devices with data export in common
formats. Cyclone also interfaces with the Swift family of
products to enable Teletext subtitling.
MediaSphere
Enabling broadcasters to fully exploit the potential for increased
revenues and customer loyalty, through dynamic, interactive
TV applications, Softel's MediaSphere interactive television
playout platform provides highly scalable application playout
with support for multiplatform and middleware. With unique
parallel multiformat playout capability from a single unit,
MediaSphere is a flexible interactive platform that also enables
cost-effective, rapid, application test and deployment with
MediaSphere Lab. The solution supports all DTT, DSAT and cable
interactive formats, including MHEG, MHP and OpenTV.
