Softron Media Services Announces OnTheAir Video Express Mac Based Entry Level Professional Playout Application Supports All QuickTime Movie Formats including Reference Movies, Key (Alpha) Channel and HDV/H.264 Clips

Softron Media Services demonstrated OnTheAir Video Express at its booth (SL08928) during NAB 2009. It will be available for purchase online or from authorized Softron resellers.

OnTheAir Video Express is a Macintosh based professional video playout application that is designed to work in conjunction with video cards manufactured by AJA Video and Blackmagic Design. OnTheAir Video Express supports both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) playback of any QuickTime movie that is placed into an OnTheAir Video Express playlist.

Movie clips that have been created with an Alpha Key (ARGB) using applications such as Apple’s LiveType™ or Adobe’s AfterEffects™ can be used to overlay lower third or full screen keyed graphics over live video using OnTheAir Video Express. HDV and AVC/H.264 clips can be added straight to a playlist and played out; no additional conversions are required. Apple QuickTime movies, even Reference Movies that are still being ingested and/or edited by applications such as Apple’s Final Cut Pro or Softron’s own ingest application MovieRecorder, can be dropped into an OnTheAir Video Express playlist and will play out accordingly.

Still images and PDFs can be added to any playlist and, after selecting a playout length, will be output to video just like any QuickTime movie dropped into a playlist. QuickTime movies and PDFs created with Apple’s Keynote can be played out keeping the inter-image timing.

OnTheAir Video Express is priced at just € 695 (US$ 1095.) OnTheAir Video Express has been developed by Softron Media Services. Softron has been supplying Macintosh based professional solutions for radio and television broadcasting for over 25 years.

Softron’s flagship product is OnTheAir Video, an application in use at over 750 television installations worldwide. OnTheAir Video has been designed to be a fully automated playout server supporting 24/7/365 scheduling of either SD or HD clips with logo/graphic overlay on the clip output as well as simultaneous multi-language output with each clip. OnTheAir Video is AppleScriptable and supports MIDI as well.

OnTheAir Video Express is designed to be interactive and used in live situations where scheduled output is not the major orientation. This includes on air presentations to overlay graphics on live video and /or events where quick switching between different clips, and different playlists, for outputting to large displays is a requirement. Since OnTheAir Video Express works with Reference Movies, live ingests can be time slipped and / or paused during capture. OnTheAir Video Express can also use playlists created with OnTheAir Video.

“OnTheAir Video Express streamlined our video play out needs and provided 702.tv with the quality and simplicity of use for our staff. It is a product I would highly recommend to anyone looking to simplify and condense their control room while maintaining a superior on-air quality,” said Chris DeFranco, Executive Producer of 702.tv, a television station based in Henderson, Nevada near Las Vegas.

“We are extremely pleased to bring OnTheAir Video Express to the market. It fills a void in the marketplace that really needed a professional solution. A Mac product, aggressively priced and easy to use that overlays animated graphics on live video is something our customers have wanted for a while. This is one of those products that is really customer driven,” says Daniel Tapie, CEO of Softron Media Services.
