

Sony and ABU join hands to foster technical exchanges
among broadcast professionals

Winner of the 2007
ABU Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award, Mr Kim Sanjin
from South Korean public broadcaster, Seoul Broadcasting System
(SBS), has returned from a study tour to Japan jointly organised
by Sony Corporation of Hong Kong (Sony) and the Asia-Pacific
Broadcasting Union (ABU).
As a part of the award, the tour aimed to
promote exchange of the latest technological developments
in the broadcast industry and to share experiences between
the award recipient and other professionals in the region.
During the study tour, Mr Kim visited Sonys
research and production site, Kosai Tec in Tokyo, and observed
the advanced facility which develops leading broadcast, business
and cinema equipment to the world.
In addition, Mr Kim visited a local television
production centre and attended the InterBEE 2007 to further
explore the forefront of cutting-edge broadcast technologies
and to meet industry professionals from different countries.
Upon completion of the study tour, Mr Kim said, It was
a valuable chance for me to visit Japan and to witness their
advanced broadcasting technology. I was impressed with the
teamwork and professionalism demonstrated by the Sony workers
at Kosai Tec who work diligently to achieve zero-defect throughout
the production.
The Award is reserved for the staff or former
staff of ABU members within the Asia-Pacific region. Contributions
to the broadcasting industry made within the last five years
are considered for the application of the award.

The profile of the ABU Broadcast Engineering Excellence
Award is also raised to new heights because of Sony Corporations
partnership and it will be an instrument to encourage high-level
contributions in broadcast engineering. We congratulate Mr
Kim Sanjin on his success.
The Award, which is now into its fifth year, is conferred
on an individual to recognise contributions of an outstanding
nature in broadcast engineering and in related disciplines.
In previous years, eminent broadcast engineers and researchers
have been given recognition for their work through this award.
