Sony Leads Market For Tapeless And Networked Production Solutions At IBC - Stand No. 9.310

July 30, 2008

IT-based workflow dominates Sony’s stand at IBC 2008. From the entry-level HDV family’s latest hybrid recording products and the extension to the XDCAM range’s Meta data management capabilities to Sony’s new high-end HDCAM SR IT interface, visitors will see how Sony is leading the way with its choice of solutions for every budget.

With tens of thousands of XDCAM units in use by major broadcasters and production companies worldwide and SONAPS radically transforming news productions across EMEA, Naomi Climer, Vice-President of Sony Europe, explained why customers trust Sony’s technology leadership: “At Sony, our customers’ needs are at the heart of everything we design and we believe they should not have to compromise in their pursuit of excellence. Through decades of innovation and technology leadership, we know that choice matters to our customers. From news-gathering to high-end documentary productions, we’re number one in the market because our customers know they don’t need to look anywhere else for the most advanced, IT-based solutions.”

Sony’s XDCAM family is the number one choice for file-based workflow

Offering outstanding picture quality, HD production flexibility and fast file-based workflow, Sony’s growing XDCAM range has been designed to suit a diversity of needs where speed is critical. In addition to seeing Sony’s entry-level XDCAM EX3 solid state camcorder, visitors at IBC 2008 will discover new solutions for the acclaimed PDW-700 that include an extension of the range’s meta data management capabilities. On the stand’s dedicated Network Production area, customers can also hear more about Sony’s unrivalled choice of interoperability partners with 50mb support.

End-to-end IT-based workflow for news and live production

In addition to the latest HD production systems for live outside broadcast and studio events, visitors to the News and Live Production area will see how SONAPS optimises the news and sports production process from planning, acquisition and editing to playout, distribution and archive. Through bespoke design and delivery by Sony’s Professional Services team and already on-air across Europe in a strong broadcast customer base that is set to expand at IBC 2008, SONAPS offers an easy migration path to HD, accommodates third-party integration and is entirely scalable for future and multi-system expansion.

A proven leadership in eco-innovation

For almost 20 years, Sony has demonstrated a consistent track-record for innovation in developing products and processes that minimise environmental impact on the planet. Visitors to IBC will see how Sony’s environmental initiatives go far beyond the basic needs of legal compliance and range across the entire business value chain - from R&D and more efficient manufacturing processes to the use of renewable energy and the voluntary reduction in the use of hazardous substances.

“Managing the environmental impact of our solutions has been a central part of Sony thinking for many years,” said David Bush, Director of Marketing, Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “Our customers’ procurement strategies increasingly specify products and solutions that satisfy rigorous environmental requirements. By choosing Sony, they know that green design is integral at every phase of our product lifecycle.”
