Stantron Broadcast E-Rack Supports Trinity Broadcast Network Upgrade

September 10, 2007

Stantron®, a division of Mayville Products Corporation, announces the installation of its Stantron Broadcast E-Racks at Trinity Broadcast Network’s production and broadcast facility in Tustin, California.

Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN), the world’s largest religious network, offers 24 hours of commercial-free inspirational programming. The network recently completed a major facility upgrade that included seventeen Stantron Broadcast E-Racks with a Pioneer Seismic Frame. TBN’s long-time system integrator, TV Magic, worked with TBN from the initial design concept through to its completion. TV Magic specified the equipment and storage configurations, while overseeing the integration process.

The new facility buildout and installation of equipment was phased in over a period of time as existing on air channels were replaced. Since TBN is a 24/7 broadcast network, TV Magic provided numerous contingencies to keep them on the air while new systems were moved, tested and brought online.

TV Magic Chief Technical Officer Gus Allmann served as Director of Engineering for the majority of this upgrade project. Allmann said that TV Magic has consistently installed Stantron racks since the beginning of its relationship with TBN.

“As the largest religious broadcasting network, TBN is constantly growing and adding production facilities,” said Allmann. “We knew we wanted to maintain Stantron products throughout the facility. Stantron products offer a wide selection of accessories that allow us to be flexible to what TBN needs.”

Allmann considers the selection of racks to house equipment a crucial element in the design process of a production or broadcast facility. “Some might take it for

granted, but choosing the right rack really can eliminate headaches down the line,” he explained. “It becomes the backbone of how equipment is arranged and organized.” Allmann added that since this job was situated in California having the option of installing seismic racks was very important as well.

Another feature that made the Stantron Broadcast E-Rack stand out from competitors was its 45 RU of space. Allmann describes situations where a single RU can really make a difference: “It’s only an extra 1.75 inches, but it allows you to place a 1 RU device that you don’t often need to reach at the top of the rack, leaving more useable space in the ergonomic portion of the rack where engineers can easily reach and touch items stored inside. They hit the sweet spot, by offering 45 RU instead of 44 RU in a rack of similar height.”

Stantron’s willingness to custom design its racks to fit the requirements of a specific integration project set them apart from the competition. “You absolutely must have racks that will hold the equipment securely and be able to customize the rack for your specific purposes,” Allman said. “The Stantron Broadcast E-Rack line does that by offering options like horizontal lacing bars, fan units for cooling, and a variety of doors. The rack design also accommodates cable runs well by allowing them to come up between the racks rather than through the back.”

The Stantron Broadcast E-Rack reflects many system integration trends related to broadcasters’ requirements for rack space efficiency. Available in a variety of heights and depths, the Stantron Broadcast Rack has a flexible design with unmatched rack density, whether for television or radio, digital or analog. With equipment profiles decreasing in size, the amount of cabling required to successfully integrate a broadcast system has increased. Horizontal lacing brackets simplify the management of cables by spreading them from front to back. The integrator can tie cables in strategic areas to accommodate a narrower space.
