Streambox, Inc. announced the launch of the Streambox SBT3-5300, the newest member of the company's family of video transport-over IP encoders/decoders.

The compact 1-RU solution is ideal for live news broadcasts, distribution of video to cable headends, SNG/ENG vehicles, and other video delivery applications that require high reliability and performance with minimal power consumption.

Designed for low-bandwidth video acquisition and transport, the SBT3-5300 enables users to capture, transmit, and play out live and file-based video over IP networks. The SBT3-5300 packages all of the advanced networking capabilities of Streambox's industry-leading ACT-L3 codec in a smaller, lighter-weight chassis — delivering unrivaled SD video quality and compression at data rates ranging from 64 Kbps to 15 Mbps.

The system's advanced forward error correction and burst error protection helps to mitigate packet loss and network jitter, and its low end-to-end latency makes the SBT3-5300 ideal for video conferencing as well as broadcasting. An easy-to-use Web interface enables seamless local or remote system management.

The SBT3-5300 features composite and SD-SDI inputs for video as well as balanced audio, AES audio, and embedded SDI audio. In addition the unit includes a half-duplex mode that enables it to decode and output video with multiple SDI and composite outputs. The unit includes a solid-state drive (SSD) and an optional redundant power supply for more flexibility and reliability.

"Today's broadcasters need solutions that provide maximum performance, and yet offer the energy efficiency and compact footprint that today's data centers demand. The SBT3-5300 delivers on those requirements while harnessing the same ACT-L3™ technology that is in wide use by news organizations around the world," said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. "With adjustable latency, user-configurable presets, and seamless local or remote management, the SBT3-5300 is a truly versatile video transport solution."
