Sundance Digital, a part of Avid Technology,
Inc. (Nasdaq: AVID) and an award-winning provider of high-performance
television automation solutions, today announced that KTRV-TV,
owned by Block Communications and the Fox affiliate for the
Boise, Idaho market recently completed an upgrade to broadcast
operations by installing a FastBreak® NXT Automation
package enabling the station to increase operating efficiencies
and decrease downtime associated with tape based playback.
KTRV-TV initially installed basic FastBreak software in 2006
to automate interstitials at the station. The newly upgraded
FastBreak NXT Automation suite now allows the station to fully
automate control of all on-air operations of the simulcast
analog-digital channel, including syndicated programming via
Intelli-Sat, Sundance's recording-management system
for satellite and other incoming feeds.
"The Sundance system has been a good investment for our
station," commented Daniel Paixao, KTRV's Chief Engineer
when asked about the transition to NXT. "Our main objective
was to lower costs and allow the station to operate more efficiently.
Our on-air look has improved and there is less downtime and
maintenance."
In addition to the Intelli-Sat system, KTRV's NXT automation
controls tape decks, a Thomson Grass Valley switcher, a Venus
router, a Saturn switcher and two Omneon Media Decks.
"We also get payback by saving on tape costs," said
Paixao. "We're migrating to a tapeless environment and
can now record directly to the media decks." Paixao added.
