Telairity today announced that its BE8100 H.264 HD encoder has been selected by John Lay Solutions AG of Switzerland for use at the UEFA Euro2008.

TM being hosted at St. Jakob-Park stadium in Basel Switzerland. St. Jakob-Park stadium is the site for Switzerland's matches against the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Portugal, as well as for two quarter-final matches and a semi-final match. The BE8100 supplies video through a DVB modulator to an in-stadium network of set-top boxes connected to displays in private boxes, VIP lounges, the press room and other venues throughout the stadium.
"With the BE8100, we can provide fans at the stadium with vivid high-definition video of all the on-field action in real time," said Roland Gut, the lead system integrator for Infra-Com Swiss AG, responsible for installing the encoders at the Park.

"Since we had very little time to get the entire system working before the opening kickoff, we needed a highly dependable encoder that is simple to install and use, backed by a factory team able to quickly help to integrate the system within the network of independently-sourced modulators and set-top boxes already installed. Basically, we needed a system you could just turn on and have it immediately start encoding at set values. The BE8100 from Telairity proved to be a perfect choice for our requirements."

DVC Digitalvideo Computing GmbH, a leading supplier for the digital video, presentation, and HDTV markets, is the European reseller for all of Telairity's HD and SD real-time H.264 encoding platforms. "Our agreement with DVC provides a strong sales channel for Telairity's encoder products into European markets where the DVC name is recognized for technical excellence and superior customer service," said Howard Sachs, president and CEO of Telairity.

"Telairity's encoding platform is the industry's best-in-class solution for real-time video compression, based on latest H.264 compression standard," said Harald Näther, general manager of DVC. "We're delighted to offer this outstanding encoder to our customers throughout Europe."

Telairity's H.264 encoding platforms are an essential technology for building cost-effective SDTV and HDTV services that deliver low-latency, high-quality video at typical bit rates of 1.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps for SD pictures, and 6 Mbps to 12 Mbps for HD pictures. Their low bit rates enable new HD services to be deployed in the same channels currently used for SD services, or for more SD services to be deployed within the same bandwidth, providing operators an opportunity to increase revenues by offering either upgraded or additional services.

Fully software programmable and scalable, Telairity's encoding platforms allow for easy feature and functionality upgrades over time. They offer H.264/AVC compression technology at the most advanced level defined for 4:2:0 encoding, the Fidelity Range Extension (FRext) High Profile standard. Their exceptional reliability, operational simplicity, industry-leading encode latency of 150ms, unique "instant on" capability, and superior cost-effectiveness make Telairity systems the encoders of choice for a wide variety of applications, including not only private broadcast networks at sports arenas, but also major cable operations, public and commercial.
