TransMedia Dynamics (TMD), a highly focused organization specializing in the development of solutions to the global media and broadcast industries, announced today that Discovery Communications, the number one non-fiction media company in the world, has selected TMD to design and implement a media management and workflow solution based on the company's Mediaflex product for their in-house post production facility, based in Silver Spring, Md.

The Discovery Production Center is responsible for various post production and media creation processes across multiple platform distribution mediums. Mediaflex will provide functionality for library management for tape-based media, ingest and quality control for both tape and file-based content, and management of editing workflows and related content. The solution will also include i-Mediaflex , TMD's web-based enterprise wide architecture, which will allow easy access to content and metadata beyond the production center and throughout the organization.

"The new solution will support our move from a tape-based to a file-based environment, as well as provide us with an improved workflow management and audit trail," said John Honeycutt, Chief Media Technology Officer for Discovery Communications. "TMD's ability to understand and address not only the technical issues of media management, but also the wider business requirements was a key factor in our decision to work with them."

TMD is also providing project management and systems integration services to Discovery. Mediaflex will be integrated with several production centric systems including Avid Interplay, Harris QuiC, Masstech MassStore, and Omneon Spectrum. In addition, Mediaflex will be integrated with Discovery's business systems to provide a comprehensive workflow and management reporting environment.

Mediaflex modules have already been installed in Discovery's London and Singapore origination facilities as part of solutions provided by Ascent Media, the world's largest provider of integrated global services for the creation, management and distribution of media content.

"This is a very exciting and prestigious contract for TMD," said Tony Taylor, Chairman of TMD. "Not only does it utilize many different Mediaflex modules, including the recently launched i-Mediaflex, but it will also draw heavily upon our proven systems integration skills to provide Discovery with what I believe will be the gold standard in media management."
