XOrbit, a leading designer and manufacturer
of caption automation, management, and distribution solutions
for the broadcasting, cable, and new media industries, today
introduced its near-air captioning solution, RTX Post
a seamless fusion of the company's RTX Live and OmniEdit
closed-caption creation and editing system. RTX Post eliminates
the high costs and inefficiencies broadcasters face in captioning
pre-recorded content that arrives in the studio just before
its scheduled air time.

For live broadcasts, RTX Live utilizes an Internet connection
to provide a direct link to stenographers anywhere in the
world, who can then apply the captions in real-time as the
program airs. Until now, however, the process of captioning
newly arrived pre-recorded content has been cumbersome and
costly, requiring television stations or cable networks to
dub a tape of the content and ship it to the stenographer,
who in turn would have to create a new master and ship it
back once the captions were applied. In a rush situation,
stations or networks would have to incur additional costs
for overnight couriers in both directions as well as rush
charges from the stenographer a process that could
take at least three days.
"RTX Live has revolutionized the way broadcasters caption
live content, making it easy, secure and reliable," said
Steven Blumenschein, president of XOrbit, Inc. "But we
wanted to address the post-production challenges of pre-recorded
content as well. Not only can the extra costs for tape stock,
couriers, and rush charges add up to many hundreds of dollars,
but the time factor often means broadcasters are airing programs
without captions putting them at risk for fines from
the FCC."
RTX Post creates a seamless captioning workflow that enables
remotely-based stenographers to turn around captioned content
in hours, instead of days. Installed on the stenographer's
local workstation, XOrbit's OmniEdit establishes a direct,
secure Internet connection to RTX Live. Using the machine
control feature, the stenographer can play, pause, rewind,
fast forward, and stop the material just as if he or she were
sitting next to the tape source.
Once the stenographer has completed the captioning, OmniEdit
can correct errors, remove typos, and verify that the material
is in compliance with FCC language regulations. When the work
is complete, the stenographer can transmit the closed captioned
data to the broadcast facility where it can be recorded on
an UltraCast® caption automation system, a tape deck,
or an asset management system.
"It's easy to see the value proposition with our new
RTX Post," said David Brack, vice president of sales
and marketing for XOrbit. "In today's complex broadcasting
environment, our customers are looking for every advantage
they can find to reduce costs, streamline processes, and shorten
the cycles involved in getting content to air while
staying within regulatory compliance. With this solution,
we've taken everything our customers appreciate about RTX
Live on-air captioning, and extended it to meet the challenges
of captioning pre-recorded material that must be ready to
air as needed."
